    The word servo comes from servomechanism, which is a system that uses feedback to control motion or position precisely.

    It originates from the Latin word servus meaning servant → the idea is that the system “serves” to maintain a desired state.

    In photography, when applied to autofocus (AF), it refers to a system that continuously “serves” the photographer by adjusting focus in real time.
